China University of Petroleum (UPC) is a national key university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education and a member of the “211 Project” and “985 innovation platform for preponderant discipline” universities. China University of Petroleum is a higher education institution co-constructed by the Ministry of Education, four leading petroleum and petrochemical companies (CNPC, SINOPEC, CNOOC, and CHEMCHINA) and the People’s Government of Shandong Province. Honored as “the cradle of scientific and technological talents for petroleum industry”, UPC is an important base of training high-level talents for petroleum and petrochemical industry and has already developed into a multi-disciplinary, well-rounded university focusing on petroleum and engineering.

    The university now has two campuses in Dongying and Qingdao, Shandong Province. Qingdao Campus, the main and new campus, is located in Qingdao which enjoys a high reputation as “the sailing city” and “city by the sea” with its charming scenery. It is facing the Tangdao Bay and backed by the Little Pearl Hill with picturesque scenery. Dongying campus lies in Dongying, the central city on the Yellow River delta and nationally known as “the city of oil”. It is the old campus and now well served as the base of research and practice.

    China University of Petroleum has 12 schools as well as College of International Education, School of Military Reserve Officers, College of Distance and Continuing Education. Focusing on the education of undergraduates, the university has established a complete education system, enrolling nearly 20000 full-time undergraduates, over 5700 postgraduates, about 1100 overseas students and more than 70000 registered correspondence network students. It has a highly qualified faculty which ensures the quality of teaching and research. The university has 1782 teachers at present, among which there are 971 professors and associate professors, 180 doctoral supervisors.

   Since its birth, UPC has produced more than 200,000 graduates for petroleum and petrochemical industry and national economic development, including senior government officials, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, leading figures in petroleum and petrochemical industry and backbones in engineering technology. 

   Through over six decades, China University of Petroleum has become an engineering-oriented university with characteristics of petroleum science and formed a system with various disciplines such as science, management, liberal arts, the science of law and economics. In the new century, it will be more dedicated and strive for the goal of “a nationally renowned, high-level, research-oriented university with its petroleum disciplines reaching the world's first-class level.”
